Discussion forums are the first and simplest form of collaboration that an organisation should implement. It allows asynchronous communication on a variety of topics defined by the users or more commonly the content administrators.

It also enables users to share knowledge capital and benefit from experiences beyond the normal circle of peers and friends that they commonly use. Discussion forums are powerful tools to join a geographically or culturally disparate organisation.

Discussion forums are split into topics and threads. Topics have many threads. An example topic could be ‘Your favourite football team’, and the threads associated with that topic could be

  1. Arsenal
  2. Chelsea
  3. Man Utd

Users can then either add another thread to that topic (e.g. 4. Liverpool) or post a reply to an existing thread.

Topic owners can get notified via email of any replies to their discussion. All replies are published in chronological order and are fully searchable using the Continuity search engine.
