Metadata - enabling content intelligence

Metadata is simply meaningful data describing other data or put another way, data about data. Metadata is used by search engines to locate the most relevant content based on keywords and other metadata types.

Metadata cannot only be used to retrieve the correct content, but also be used to prevent content from being seen by unauthorised users and to deliver personalised content to a user based on their profile.

Metadata is the best way of controlling content within a large Internet/Intranet/Extranet website or portal and is intrinsically linked to the organisation's defined taxonomy.
